I’ve finally decided to share my super simple Turmeric Garlic Rice recipe which was a subscriber exclusive because never a day goes by without someone asking me for the recipe! This is one of my regular carbohydrate sources during the week and I made it nutritious by cooking it in broth and adding turmeric and garlic.
Stovetop is my preferred method to cook rice because I’m old school that way but it works just as well in a rice cooker. It will make your house smell AMAZING and the bright yellow hue of the cooked rice makes it a delight to eat.
Turmeric Garlic Rice
Ingredients
- 2 cups jasmine rice
- 2½ cups chicken broth or water
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
-
Place uncooked rice in a pot. Add enough water to cover the top.
-
Wash the rice and drain.
-
Add chicken broth, turmeric powder and garlic powder. Mix well.
-
Place the pot uncovered on the stove over high heat.
-
Once the water starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and cover.
-
Cook for 15 minutes until the rice is tender and fluffy.
Recipe Notes
Rice Cooker method: Rinse rice and add chicken broth, turmeric powder and garlic powder. Mix well, cover and set your rice cooker to the cook setting.
Instant Pot method: Cook for 10 minutes on the Rice setting. Make sure the valve is set to the sealing position.
Thank you! Do you find that this would stain the inside of a rice cooker?
no it wont 🙂 I use the instant pot and a cast iron stovetop rice pot and they didn’t turn yellow.
Would I need to do anything different if I use white or brown rice? I am not a fan of Jasmine. Thanks so much!
Just cook it a little bit longer when using brown rice. Let me know how it turns out!
Where is the cauliflower rice version of this recipe? Thanks!
Made this super quick yesterday. Rice cooker + Brown rice + this recipe and it all worked fantastic. Used the rice for the paella dish we were having for dinner.
This rice is THE BEST! It has become a weekly staple in my kitchen, it is easy to make, packed full of flavor, and goes with everything!
Yay I’m glad you love it Whitney!!

If its the Japanese sticky rice, it will work for this recipe too
I made it with broccoli and it came out fluffy and delicious
