This Hotdogs and Onions in Ketchup is a 3-ingredient dish that takes no more than 15 minutes to cook and prepare. Serve it for either breakfast, lunch or dinner!
On weekends when I was growing up, my mom would stir fry these Hotdogs and Onions in Ketchup for breakfast and our family would eat it with garlic fried rice and a fried egg. It’s such a simple dish that’s a staple in any Filipino household.
I was usually excited when my mom was making this because that means it’s the weekend and I could go out and play with my friends. Back in the day, I didn’t grow up with electronic gadgets and the only video console I had (which I shared with my brother) was the Nintendo entertainment system. Mario Bros and Duck Hunt were my games of choice. I could only play these games on Friday and Saturday nights. They were fun but I enjoyed playing outside on the street more because that means I get to be out of the house and avoid chores.
But yeah, having this Hotdogs and Onions in Ketchup was the bee’s knees when I was a kid because breakfasts during school day were either a soft boiled egg or a hot bowl of instant ramen. My brother and I needed to be out the door by 530am so food had to be no-fuss and ready in 5 minutes!
The Filipino version is usually made with red beef hotdogs, onions and banana ketchup. I made some simple swaps and used cleaner ingredients and it tastes exactly the same as the one that my mom made.
Now you might think this combo is weird but don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! Pair this 3-ingredient dish with regular rice or cauliflower rice or serve it on top of scrambled eggs for a super filling meal.

Thanks for posting! I’ve made it twice so far. The first time I ate it with sauteed kale and goat cheese lol. The 2nd time was with sauteed kale and a little grass-fed cheddar cheese. It was excellent!
Wow that sounds like a delicious combo! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
